Other Fun Things to Do:
Hike or Ride Your Bike Parallel to the Beach
Birch Bay Drive has a 4 Foot shoulder
on each side of the road that runs from Birch Bay Village through Birch Bay State
Park. This shoulder is intended of walking, hiking, jogging, bike riding, roller
blading, wheel chares. All human powered except for power wheel chares. Have fun
share the road and share the shoulder. Many people who have used this facility
in past years have parked at the state park. Beginning this year, due to state budget short fall you will need to pay $5.00 to park your car
at the state park. Seasonal passes are available for $50. There are a few free
parking areas at the far north end of the state park. You will find free parking
at the rest of Birch Bay. There may be less demand for parking in the Cotton
Wood Beach area.
Hike the Beach
Birch Bay State Park and the
central part of Birch Bay are open areas. The beach has a gentle slope. Many people enjoy a walk along the
beach. Many beach comb along
the way.
Hike out on the tide flats.
Pick a low tide time and hike out
on the tide flats. During the winter wear water tight boots. During the
summer it is best to wear sneakers.
Come and Bird watch
The shore birds here change with
the seasons. The Black Brant will be here in April. Mallards and fresh water
ducks will show up when the fresh water lakes freeze. You will find woodland
and marsh area birds in the state park and the reed area of Terrell Creek. You
will find woodland and meadow birds in the Equestrian Park
on Blaine Road. Of course you will find our resident bird (the Great Blue Heron) most anywhere in Birch Bay. Even the seasoned residents still are
excited to see an Eagle even though we see them almost on a weekly basis along
with the common loon, Canada geese, herring gull, American crow, and Ravens.
Watch the Sunset
Sunsets at Birch Bay are phenomenal.
Some people start watching a sun set in the Cottonwood Beach area, then drive to
Bay Center Market area, then at Alderson Road end Park, and finally end up
at Birch Bay State Park for the final setting.
Take your Dog for a walk along the beach
Birch Bay appears to be a particularly
good place to take a dog for a walk. Take a leash and a plastic bag. Be ready to
retrieve your dog's divets.
Lunch in your Car
Take your sack lunch, a good book and
park your car where you can see the beach. Birch Bay is the kind of place where
you should never eat on the run.
